I'm happy to have been one of the students of Dr Sklepowich for two years. He's always been close to all of us and he never hesitates to talk to us whenever he encounters us at the faculty. What's happened to such a prominent teacher, professor and writer is a shame. Dr Sklepowich has never been a foreigner in Tunisia. He loves Tunisia and he considers it as his country. Our great shameful administration should have taken into consideration the man's love for his work and his passion about teaching in Tunisian universities. As one of Mr Sklepowich's students, I don't want him to leave our faculty and I call on all my friends and colleagues to protest against our administration's disgraceful decision reflecting the seriousness of the situation of Tunisian university.

  • Mr Edward Sklepowich is definitely a special professor. He made us love literature and help us build critical thinking and not just being a passive story-teller. At beginning in my 3rd year we had a clash of thoughts and what I liked more about him is that although my views and opinions ( about Joan of Arc) were different from his , I was not deprived to get good marks in the exam. Mr Sklepowich is willing to give a hand to all the students regardless of everything. I cannot express my gratitude when he wrote me a reference letter. All my love, my gratitude and my respect , sir.

  • He taught me. He is one of the greatest teachers who have ever taught me. I feel like drawing up a list of adjectives for that sojourn---exactly what my literature professor Mr. Edward in FLS always asked me to keep out. As He rightly said, good critical English is not adjectival! I will nevertheless indulge in some. Those years have been intense, difficult, painful, gratifying, productive and full of learning. I have had a sustained clinical experience of modern and postmodern literature and the first share of everyday living with great friends and all the experiences it entails. I have made great friends in this venue and I'm confident that some of these relationships will last. As this is already sounding like a nostalgic note, I will refrain myself from bidding adieu. There is unfinished business there and a possibility of a visit in the offing. In any case, we never leave places we love forever and we never forget teachers we love forever. They remain etched in us. I have never been to FLS since 2006 though hard have I tried to have a visit and meet some of my teachers. Dr. Edward will always remain in our hearts and memoriesand down with those who will pass unnoticed. It is a shame therefore to treat a talented teacher the way thetunisian administration did. Now, being abroad, and with the prickly responsibilities devolved to me, I just need a chance to say thanks a bunch to all my teachers.. I came here as a teacher but with all these years of walking and exploring, I am going back with the smell of that beautiful place.

  • And what is his response but another proof of his generosity and HUMANE nature?! "You have done something for me--and you have done something for them [his students]. Thank you." Professor Sklepowich is indeed unique. He is an inspiration.

He is the best instructor, the best director, a scholar, a novelist, a thinker who generously shares his knowledge with Tunisian students and who always gives without waiting for something in return...Shame on those who do not esteem a scholar with such a scientific stature and such devotion to scientific research.

    Hi Zied,
Thanks for sending me the link etc. Actually several students have already informed me of your blog post. Thank you very much for making such an effort on my behalf. Truly kind of you. I appreciate what you have said, especially in emphasizing my devotion to my students, my desire to help them, and my love of teaching. The response on your blog by students is gratifying. I have always felt their gratitude and concern for me every year I've been here in a place I consider my home. Your detailed, thoughtful post has given them an opportunity to speak their hearts and minds, which I've always encouraged. You have done something for me - and you have done something for them. Thank you.
    Best,
    Edward"
    "Dear Zied,
I am very moved by the concern and support of my students. I thank them from the bottom of my heart. Please re-assure them that I'm well in all ways - and may God keep me so. Whatever happens, I have no intention of leaving Tunisia for America, KSA, or anywhere else but I will stay here and continue with my writing. And even though I get no pension, I'll continue to work with my thesis students until they finish their projects.
    Yours,
    Edward
